EDI Ultrapure Water Equipment

Our EDI (Electrodeionization) Ultrapure Water Equipment represents the pinnacle of advanced water purification technology, designed to produce high-purity water with exceptional consistency, efficiency, and sustainability. Unlike traditional ion exchange systems, our EDI solutions eliminate the need for chemical regeneration, delivering cost-effective, environmentally friendly ultrapure water for critical industrial, pharmaceutical, and electronic applications where water quality is non-negotiable.

What is EDI Ultrapure Water Technology?

Electrodeionization (EDI) is a synergistic combination of ion exchange resin and electrodialysis, leveraging electrical energy to continuously remove ions from water without the use of chemical regenerants (such as acid and alkali). Our EDI systems integrate cation and anion exchange resins within a membrane stack, where an electric field drives ions through selective membranes—resulting in ultrapure water with resistivity up to 18.2 MΩ·cm (at 25°C) and total organic carbon (TOC) levels as low as 1–5 ppb.

This innovative technology eliminates the downtime, chemical handling risks, and environmental impact associated with conventional ion exchange, making it the preferred choice for industries requiring consistent, high-grade ultrapure water.

Core Working Principle

Our EDI ultrapure water equipment operates through a three-stage integrated process, ensuring unparalleled purification performance:

  1. Pretreatment Integration: Feedwater (typically pre-treated by reverse osmosis/RO) enters the EDI module, where suspended solids, colloids, and residual organics are removed to protect the EDI membrane stack and resin.
  2. Ion Exchange & Electrodialysis: Inside the EDI stack, ion exchange resins adsorb remaining dissolved ions (cations and anions) from the water. An applied electric field then regenerates the resins in-situ, driving ions through cation-exchange and anion-exchange membranes to concentrated brine streams, which are flushed away.
  3. Polishing & Ultrapure Output: The treated water undergoes a final polishing stage to remove trace impurities, delivering ultrapure water that meets or exceeds international industry standards for resistivity, TOC, and particle count.

Key Features & Competitive Advantages

  • Chemical-Free Operation: Eliminates the need for acid/alkali regeneration, reducing chemical procurement, storage, and disposal costs—while eliminating environmental pollution and operator safety risks.
  • Ultrapure Water Quality: Consistently produces water with resistivity up to 18.2 MΩ·cm, TOC ≤ 5 ppb, and particle count (≥0.2 μm) ≤ 10 particles/mL, meeting the strictest requirements of high-tech, pharmaceutical, and laboratory applications.
  • Continuous, Uninterrupted Operation: 24/7 automated operation with no downtime for resin regeneration, ensuring stable water supply and improving production efficiency.
  • Energy & Cost Efficiency: Low energy consumption (3–8 kWh/m³ of ultrapure water) and minimal maintenance requirements reduce long-term operational costs compared to traditional ion exchange systems.
  • Durable & Reliable Design: High-quality EDI membrane stacks (made of PVDF, PEEK, and high-performance ion exchange resins) ensure long service life (5–8 years for membrane stacks) and consistent performance even in harsh operating conditions.
  • Intelligent Automation: Equipped with a PLC-based control system, featuring real-time monitoring of water resistivity, flow rate, pressure, and temperature—with automatic alarm, cleaning, and shutdown functions for hassle-free operation.
  • Modular & Scalable: Modular design allows for easy expansion to adapt to changing water demand, making it suitable for small-scale laboratory use (100 L/h) to large-scale industrial production (100 m³/h).

Application Areas

Our EDI ultrapure water equipment is engineered to meet the critical water purification needs of multiple high-precision industries, including:

  • Electronics & Semiconductor: Wafer fabrication, semiconductor packaging, printed circuit board (PCB) production, and electronic component cleaning—where ultrapure water prevents contamination and ensures product reliability.
  • Pharmaceutical & Biotech: Production of injectable drugs, APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients), sterile formulations, and laboratory testing—complying with FDA, GMP, and USP standards for water purity.
  • Laboratory & Research: Analytical laboratories, academic research, and quality control (QC) facilities—providing high-purity water for HPLC, GC, spectroscopy, and other precision analytical techniques.
  • Power Generation: Boiler feedwater treatment for thermal power plants, nuclear power plants, and combined cycle power plants—preventing scaling, corrosion, and equipment damage.
  • Electroplating & Metal Finishing: High-purity water for electroplating, anodizing, and metal polishing—ensuring uniform coating quality and preventing surface defects.
  • Food & Beverage: Production of high-end beverages, food processing, and beverage bottling—ensuring product safety and taste consistency.
